Navy officials say they have more footage of the UFO, but do not want to make it public.
The US Navy says the release of any additional UFO footage “would be detrimental to national security and all government UFO footage is classified information.”
In response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the Navy said on the Black Vault website that any public release of new UFO footage “would harm national security by providing valuable information to adversaries about operations, vulnerabilities and/or DoD/Navy capabilities, and no portion of the videos may be selected for publication’.
Black Vault searches for all videos tagged “unidentified aerial phenomena”. This is an interesting response from the Navy, as often the War Departments give the so-called “Glomar response,” in which they neither confirm nor deny that the records (in this case, the video) exist. In this response, the Navy acknowledges that it has more videos and also provides an explanation as to why three previous UFO videos were released.
The answer says:
“Although three UFO videos have been released in the past, the facts surrounding these three recordings are unique in that these videos were initially circulated through unofficial channels prior to their official release.
These events were widely discussed in the community. In addition, major news outlets ran special editions of these events. Given the amount of information in the public domain about these meetings, it was possible to release the files without further compromising national security.”
It’s true that the three videos leaked by former Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge and the New York Times weren’t officially published at first. But the Pentagon has spoken regularly about UFOs in recent years and earlier this year showed additional UFO videos to Congress.
Does the military want to tell the public and Congress that “UFOs are real, they are a threat, and that they need more funding to determine what they are and possibly protect us from them” but continue to keep the records under lock and key…
